Louise Palmer
Gypsum cement
Palmer's work explores both man-made and natural landscapes as
they are dreamed, remembered and imagined, activating a flow
between artifice and nature and the tangible and intangible. Recent
works include cast and transparent objects which hover at the
borders of perception, existing somewhere between the visible and
invisible.
Ghost Shadows is cast from the landscape itself,
creating a negative or ghosted shadow within a specific
environment. Cast in white these objects create a material rupture
between the natural and artificial, like displaced monuments
quietly mirroring and disappearing into the flora alongside the
walkway.
Louise Palmer is a New Zealand artist currently based in
Christchurch where she lectures in sculpture at the University of
Canterbury School of Fine Arts. She completed a Master of Visual
Arts at Sydney College of the Arts and exhibits in New Zealand and
Australia.
