headland SCULPTURE ON THE GULF
WAIHEKE ISLAND 2011 is excited to announce a record
forty artists have been selected for the fifth biennial
exhibition. New Zealand's leading outdoor sculpture
exhibition, headland 2011, will showcase
the new contemporary sculptures and artworks along Waiheke's
spectacular coastal walkway from 28 January to 20 February
2011.
The selected artists for 2011 are:
Matt Akehurst, Diane Atkinson, Chris Bailey, Ali Bramwell,
Julie-Anna, Child and Peter Mrost, Chiara Corbelletto, Paul Cullen,
Judy Darragh/Rachel Shearer, Scott Eady, John Edgar, Gina Ferguson,
Stuart Forsyth, Marcel Grosse, Mia Hamilton, Verena Jonker/Bryony
Matthew, Virginia King, Gregor Kregar, Peter Lange, Lgop (Warwick
Bell, Isaac McCormick and Suza), David McCracken, Shane
McGrath, Chris Meder, Kazu Nakagawa, Christian Nicholson, Brett

Director announced
The Waiheke Community Art Gallery announces Juliet Monaghan as
the new director for headland SCULPTURE ON THE
GULF 2011.
"headland has always been a must-do on
my summer calendar. I have found the event to be extremely
stimulating and inspiring," says Juliet. "I've always been
impressed by the organisation of the event including the excellent
team of volunteers who meet and greet visitors to the sculpture
walkway."
Juliet Monaghan's background includes both producing and
director in theatre and television and also in the visual
arts. She has a degree in Visual Arts and is a practicing artist in
her own right. She has won awards for her work in theatre and she
has produced and directed several award-winning documentaries.

from throughout New Zealand and overseas to visit Waiheke."
headland SCULPTURE ON THE GULF will be a
feature of summer 2011 on Waiheke. It will be exhibited along the
spectacular coastal walkway between Matiatia and Church Bay. Mark
your diary now for January 28 to February 20 2011 which will be the
fifth biennial exhibition.

New awards for the 5th exhibition
headland SCULPTURE ON THE GULF 2011,
Waiheke Island, is excited to announce significant awards
recognising both artists and sculptures. These include the
headland 2011 Premier Award value $30,000
plus two Selectors Merit awards worth $5,000 each.
headland is the leading outdoor
sculpture exhibition in New Zealand. All work is especially
selected for the exhibition with careful attention to site
locations for each work. Artist submissions are underway with
enthusiastic responses coming in.

in a beautiful location you will engage with a dynamic site
specificity, large crowds and the forces of nature. This year we
will focus on artistic excellence and chose those works that engage
with the site and contemporary practice in exciting and rigorous

Next year's headland SCULPTURE ON THE GULF
2011 will be the fifth biennial exhibition set along Waiheke
Island's spectacular coastal walkway during from January 28 to
February 20.
All work for headland is selected especially for the
exhibition. The selectors' panel for 2011 all have national
experience and include Trish Clark, Chairperson for the Advisory
Panel for Public Art; Heather Galbraith, Senior Curator/Manager
Curatorial Programmes at the City Gallery, Wellington,
Te Whare Toi and James McCarthy, Executive Director, Te Tuhi Centre
for the Arts.
The magnificent walkway between Matiatia and Church Bay will
come alive with all new contemporary sculpture.
headland Sculpture on the Gulf features
world-class inspiring works and always delivers an element of
surprise.
A showcase for leading New Zealand sculptors all works are for
sale during the exhibition. Considerable publicity is generated
showcasing the headland exhibition and
artists involved in national and international media including
print publications, radio and television.
